One of America's most read and celebrated authors, Anne Rice is known for weaving the visible and supernatural worlds together in epic stories that both entertain and challenge readers. Her books are rich tapestries of history, belief, philosophy, religion, and compelling characters that examine and extend our physical world beyond the limits we perceive.

Anne lives and works in California. Anne's life experiences and intellectual inquisitiveness provide her with constant inspiration for her work.

  • Born Howard Allen O'Brien on October 4, 1941 in New Orleans, LA. Anne Rice chose the first name "Anne" as a child.
  • Married to Stan Rice in 1961.
  • Daughter Michele born in 1966. Michele passed away of leukemia at the age of 5.
  • Anne writes her first published novel, INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE, in 1973, selling it to Knopf the next year.
  • Son Christopher is born in 1978. Christopher will go on to become an accomplished novelist in his own right.
  • After living in Texas and San Francisco, Anne settled back in New Orleans, buying the house that would be the setting for the Mayfair Witches series. Anne continues to write one to two books a year. Her novels INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE, EXIT TO EDEN, and THE QUEEN OF THE DAMNED become feature films. Her novel, THE FEAST OF ALL SAINTS, becomes a Showtime mini-series.
  • After husband Stan Rice passed away from a brain tumor, Anne moves to California, where she currently resides.
